Happy Mallie Monday, Happy Cancer Season, and welcome to JULY!

I’ve been working on this playlist all month, and I’ve been anxious about it 80% of the time. July is my birthday month, and today is my birthday. So, naturally, I wanted this playlist to reflect who I am as a soul. But, then I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share my inner most self with a bunch of strangers. While I seem to live very “publicly,” at the end of the day, I’m a very private person. I don’t enjoy sharing pieces of myself. I went back and forth on it for a long time, and decided fuck it, I’m just going to make the playlist that best describes me and my heart. Because that’s what Cancer season’s all about anyway, right?!?

JULY is all over the place, much like myself and the story of my life. You never quite know what you’re gunna get, and it’ll keep you on your toes. I have pretty much formatted the playlist to how I think my music taste has grown over the years. JULY opens with some of my favorite jazz/jazz-adjacent songs that I listened to during my childhood, most tied to some wonderful memory with my dad, mom, or mamaw. Then, I move into some pop punk, electric, and alternative genres - influenced by my middle school years, when I started getting music from my brother’s on mixtapes, made especially for me. They’ll love that I’m exposing them for being softies for their favorite sister.

Closing out JULY are some Mallie theme songs, aka absolute bangers. The last 10 songs or so are a stark difference to the rest of the playlist, but yet they fit in just right. If you know the real me, you’ll completely get this playlist. If you don’t - sit back, relax, put your feet up, pour yourself an ice cold Topo Chico, and dive in. Let’s get to know each other. You won’t be disappointed.

Without further adieu: here’s JULY. Listen top to bottom, as per usual. I hope you find her as comforting as I do.
